FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

One of the reasons why our experiential learning programs are so successful is that we don’t give the content away. We will tell you what items to bring, what to wear and more about the region we will be staying in, but we will not provide specifics on what will happen when.

Q: IS IT LIKE SURVIVOR OR BOOT CAMP?

A: No. We want people to ‘stay on the island’ and work well together and that’s our aim – working effectively with others. There is no bullying or humiliation. You won’t be targetted or singled out by our staff or the other participants. It is a safe and supportive environment in which to learn and try new things.

Q: DO I HAVE TO BE PHYSICALLY FIT TO DO THE PROGRAM?

A: No. Leadership capability is not tied to fitness ability. You will become fatigued, but that is manageable.

Q: WILL I HAVE ACCESS TO MY MOBILE OR LAPTOP?

A: Not while you’re on the program. This is a very deliberate part of the process: you get to focus entirely on yourself without any distractions. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish when you have only yourself and your task to think of. You may bring it with you and we will look after it for you until the program has finished. Well before program commencement, you will be given an emergency contact number for friends and family to reach us and staff will always carry a satellite phone. For most people this is the FIRST OPPORTUNITY to focus wholly on your own self-development.

Q: DO I HAVE TO CAMP?

A: It depends entirely on how well your team works together because our programs are CONSEQUENCE-based. But don’t worry – we have all the camping equipment you’ll need. The program is designed for you to be successful and end up in bunk-style accommodation. However, if things don’t go to plan, then you should be prepared to go camping.

Q: I AM AFRAID OF HEIGHTS—DO I HAVE TO ABSEIL? OR I AM CLAUSTROPHOBIC—DO I HAVE TO GO CAVING?

A: Not if you don’t want to. Our programs are ‘challenge by choice’ – but you are there because it is an opportunity to challenge yourself and learn something new. Most of our participants are always glad in the end that they chose to challenge themselves.
