David Suzuki – possible to reset society?
09/04/2020
I’ve always loved David Suzuki. His short, well-written piece is hopeful of humanity developing a new way of seeing the world in ‘life after virus’. Less consumerism. More focus on values. I wonder how many people out there are seeing this situation as opportunity to ‘reset’. Sure, it’s not been our choice – it’s like a heart attack (bear with me on this). We could choose to change our habits and diets in order not to have another heart attack… or we could be like the 30% of people who don’t change at all after a heart attack… and then of course suffer another one and unfortunately (but not surprisingly) don’t get an opportunity for a third chance… “If we could take a different path from our current one — in which more, bigger and newer seem to drive our purchases, wherein the idea of consumption for the sake of the economy and the impossible dream that endless growth is both possible and necessary for progress — we might move toward a very different future.”
